In the News!

In November 2024, MPR News featured St. Peter Area Food Shelf twice to talk about hunger in our community, and what our food shelf is doing about it.

Rising costs for groceries, housing, and other basics are sending more Minnesotans to food shelves, and St. Peter is no exception. This story goes inside our food shelf to show how our volunteers are keeping up as more people need help, including more families with children, college students, and seniors. It also features one of our shoppers, who talks about what it was like to ask for help for the first time.

Right before Thanksgiving, our director Cindy Favre was on MPR’s Minnesota Now. She talked about why more people need help right now and how we make visits easier, with evening hours, delivery, and curbside pickup. She also talked about why many people feel nervous the first time they come in. Her message: food shelves are friendly, joyful places, and there’s no shame in walking through the door.
